What the grades mean
The purpose is not to make every historical mention look equally strong. Source quality is retained so a journalist, researcher or public body can see what each record actually proves.
Independent public
Major media, universities, schools, professional bodies and other independent contemporary sources.
Published archive
Freedom Charity or Aneeta-owned public material. Useful for what was published or said; major external claims still need corroboration.
Physical archive
Programmes, invitations, photographs, recordings, correspondence and other surviving archive evidence.
Recovery leads are different. Recollections or incomplete leads are kept in the private forensic archive until corroborated. They are not promoted into the public index simply to make the record look larger.
