BOOKS · STORY · SAFEGUARDING EDUCATION
Stories can reach a reader before a warning, lesson or official definition can. Aneeta Prem’s novels place friendship, family and courage at the centre of subjects too often hidden by silence.
Explore both novels, their safeguarding context, school resources and the independent records that document their use and reach.
A friendship story in which one young person begins to realise that somebody she loves may not be free to choose whom she marries.
The story helps readers explore family pressure, consent, warning signs and the importance of seeking help from a trusted adult.
Explore But It’s Not Fair
A story about friendship that introduces FGM, bodily autonomy and the right to be safe without beginning with a legal or clinical definition.
The story follows ordinary young people whose summer experiences lead them towards a subject many adults struggle to name.

FOR READERS
Meet vivid young characters whose ordinary lives are changed by secrets, family pressure and the decision to speak.
The books are written to be read as stories, not merely assigned as resources. They explore friendship, courage, culture and choice without turning fictional characters into a lesson plan.

The books are not substitutes for safeguarding procedures or specialist training. Their strength lies in helping readers begin a conversation, recognise coercion or risk and understand that asking for help is not a betrayal.
Educational materials should be used by appropriately prepared adults who know how to respond if a child raises a concern or makes a disclosure.
A lesson must never invite pupils to disclose abuse publicly. Staff should know the school’s safeguarding procedure, identify the designated safeguarding lead and plan how private concerns will be received before teaching the material.
Separate lesson plans and educational resources are available for schools and professionals. Their current status and intended use should always be checked before teaching.
INDEPENDENT & INSTITUTIONAL EVIDENCE
Recognition, adoption and reach are stronger when they can be checked outside Aneeta.com or Freedom Charity. These records show where the books or accompanying education work have been listed, supported or used by public institutions and schools. They do not, by themselves, prove long-term safeguarding outcomes.
Where the income goes

No. The novels themselves are not PSHE accredited. Freedom Charity developed separate lesson resources to accompany But It’s Not Fair and Cut Flowers, and those educational resources received the PSHE Association Quality Mark.
Both books are available through the official Freedom Charity shop. Aneeta does not profit personally from sales through the charity.
Selected school and professional enquiries can be made through the Contact page with the audience, safeguarding lead, purpose, location and proposed date.
